Can I bring a support person to my appointment?

Yes. You are welcome to bring a support person — such as a partner, family member, or close friend — to your HealthScreen appointment.

What role can a support person play? A support person can accompany you to the clinic, be present during your physician consultations, and provide comfort and reassurance throughout the day. Many patients find it helpful to have someone with them — particularly during the results consultation, where having a second person to help absorb and remember information can be valuable.

Are there any restrictions? There are some components of your assessment where a support person may not be able to be present due to clinical and safety requirements:

  • MRI suite — only the patient can enter the MRI scanning room. Your support person will be asked to wait outside the imaging area during this component. This is a standard safety requirement for all MRI environments, as the strong magnetic field means that no unauthorised individuals — regardless of whether they have metal implants — can be present in the room during scanning.
  • Blood draw — your support person is generally welcome to be present, but our clinical team will use their discretion based on the space available and the patient's comfort.

A practical note for support persons Your assessment day is a long one — particularly for the HealthScreen Exam and Platinum programs. We recommend your support person bring something to occupy themselves during the periods when they cannot be with you. Our clinic has comfortable waiting areas, and your support person is of course welcome to come and go during the day.

If you plan to bring a support person, there is no need to notify us in advance — simply arrive together on the day. If you have any specific requirements or concerns, contact our team on 1300 03 1300 or at admin@healthscreen.com.au.
