Can I have a colonoscopy or gastroscopy at the same time as my HealthScreen appointment?

No. You are not able to get these procedures on the same day as your HealthScreen appointment, but both procedures can me arranged if clinically indicated. 

During your appointment, your HealthScreen physician will take a detailed medical history and assess whether there are clinical indications for a colonoscopy and/or gastroscopy. If warranted, they will provide a referral to a gastroenterologist or surgeon who specialises in gastrointestinal endoscopy — these procedures are then scheduled separately.

There are a few reasons these cannot be performed on the same day as your HealthScreen appointment:

  • Bowel preparation is required before a colonoscopy. Your specialist will provide specific preparation instructions based on your medical history and their clinical preferences, this typically involves dietary changes and a bowel-cleansing solution in the days leading up to the procedure.
  • An anaesthetist consultation may be required prior to the procedure, depending on your medical history and health status.
