What is a Targeted MRI and how is it different to a Full-Body MRI?
What is targeted MRI? Targeted MRI refers to MRI sequences that are selected and directed based on your individual risk profile, medical history, and areas of clinical concern. Rather than scanning the entire body indiscriminately, your HealthScreen physician first conducts a consultation to understand your specific risk factors. The imaging is then configured around what is most clinically meaningful for you — ensuring the scans that matter most are prioritised, and unnecessary imaging is avoided.
Targeted MRI sequences at HealthScreen may assess major organs and body systems including the brain, head, neck, abdomen and pelvis.
How is this different to a full-body MRI? A full-body MRI, offered by some providers scans the entire body using a single standardised protocol, regardless of the individual's specific health profile or risk factors. While this can detect certain anomalies, it may generate more incidental findings that require further investigation, without a doctor present to contextualise them.
At HealthScreen, we also use Targeted MRI alongside other imaging modalities and invetigations to give you a more comprehensive picture.
Why does this matter? Preventative health is not about doing more tests — it is about doing the right ones. A targeted, physician-guided approach reduces the risk of both missed findings and unnecessary alarm from clinically insignificant incidental results. It is a smarter, more comprehensive approach to understanding your health.
